On December 20 RA National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the deputy of the European Parliament, the key rapporteur on Armenia Tomasz Poreba.

The NA Speaker highly assessed the deputy’s visit to Armenia and NKR, noting that it gave opportunity to directly get acquainted with Armenia and the region, as well as Armenia’s approaches in Armenia-European Union relations. Armenia expects truthful presentation of the situation in the European Parliament. Hovik Abrahamyan emphasized the rapprochement with the European Union, as well as the bilateral contacts with the European countries.

RA NA Speaker noted that Armenia had welcomed the Eastern Partnership programme and within its framework the idea of the formation of the Euronest, the parliamentary platform of cooperation between the EU Eastern neighbours. Noting that he was the first to welcome that idea, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed confidence that it would promote the deepening of the relations with the European Parliament and the creation of the opportunities of new cooperation between the countries of the region. The NA Speaker thanked that all the proposals of Armenia on the structure had been accepted, and expressed willingness to promote in any way the establishment of Euronest.

Expressing his gratitude for the meeting the deputy of the European Parliament Tomasz Poreba noted that he had visited the Republic of Armenia and the NKR to get acquainted with the situation on the spot, to get necessary information about the Armenian party’s concerns and expectations. He highly assessed Armenia’s participation in Euronest, which gave opportunity to present Armenia’s viewpoints.

Hovik Abrahamyan touched upon his visit to Brussels in July of this year, during which he had numerous meetings with the representatives of the European Parliament and submitted the Armenian party’s approaches. The NA Speaker also talked about the next 11^th Meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Committee Cooperation, the final statement and recommendations of which he assessed as balanced and objective.

The interlocutors touched upon a number of issues regarding the cooperation of Armenia and European structures. Hovik Abrahamyan expressed conviction that the visit of the deputy of European Parliament to Armenia and NKR would promote that the report being prepared by him would be unbiased and objective.
